Barcelona; A leap of faith

Five months ago, I packed up my belongings and headed to Barcelona to start a master’s degree in digital marketing. To do this, I had to quit my job, leave family and friends, and embarked on this journey alone. It was scary, and I felt unprepared. But it didn’t matter because it was my dream. And nothing worth doing is ever easy. So, after months of preparation and fear racing through my body, I moved to Spain. And the experience was the best and most exciting time of my life. And I never for one second regretted my decision.

So many amazing things has happened since I moved to Spain. I became a more confident, more independent, and more cultured person. I made amazing relationships and met some really wonderful people. On top of that, I studied in a field that will help me in my professional career. I’ve also discovered a new city, learned about the people and culture, and tried as much as possible to blend in as a local. It has opened my mind and gave me a new perspective on how other countries live.

I’ve also had to get accustomed to a different lifestyle than I am used. In my hometown, life moves slow, activities are planned weeks in advance and dinner is eaten at 6pm like clockwork. But in Barcelona, new things are always happening. One moment you are waking up in your bed with no plans, the next moment, you are laying at the beach in your swimsuit while getting invited to an evening outing. Things do move very quickly in Spain, and it can be exhausting. At least it was at first. But in my fifth month of living in Barcelona, I got acclimated to the lifestyle, I got used to it, and expected it. It became the new normal, and I started to seek it out. I got addicted to always doing something, and when I came back to my hometown, I felt bored…

Which is the main reason I left in the first place. I had an unfulfilling job, and felt stuck in the same everyday cycle, doing the same thing activities, and living for the weekend, which to be honest, wasn’t even that great.

So, if ever you’re feeling like I was, I encourage you to take the leap and go achieve your dreams, no matter how big or small. Life is only worth a damn because it’s short. It’s designed to be consumed, spent lived and felt. We’re supposed to fill it mistakes and miracles. So go out and do life. Say yes to everything. Spend money and stop worrying. Do things that you wouldn’t normally do because that’s what life is about. Life begins outside of your bedroom door.
